When it comes to aluminum plates, these are typically defined as materials that are thicker than 0.2mm but less than 500mm, with a width exceeding 200mm and a length shorter than 16 meters. These are often referred to as aluminum sheets or aluminum plates. As technology has advanced, we’ve seen the development of larger equipment, which has led to the production of aluminum plates with widths up to 600mm.
An aluminum plate is essentially a rectangular piece made by rolling and processing aluminum ingots. They can be categorized into pure aluminum plates, alloy aluminum plates, thin aluminum plates, medium-thick aluminum plates, and patterned aluminum plates.
Aluminum sheets are generally grouped into two broad categories:
Firstly, based on their alloy composition:
- High-purity aluminum plates, made from aluminum with a purity level of over 99.9%.

- Aluminum plate: 6.0-25.0mm
- Thick plate (aluminum plate): 25-200mm
The uses of aluminum plates are incredibly diverse. In aerospace and defense sectors, they play crucial roles in large aircraft manufacturing, the Shenzhou spacecraft series, satellites, and more. Additionally, they are used in machining mechanical parts, mold making, chemical and insulation pipeline coatings, and even in constructing high-quality shipboards.
When it comes to classifying aluminum sheets, each grade within the aluminum alloy has its own significance. For instance, the grade 7075T651 aluminum plate belongs to the 7th series, which represents aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloys. There are nine major groups of aluminum and aluminum alloys, with the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th series being the most common.

In terms of chemical composition and properties, aluminum makes up the bulk of the material at around 99%. It also contains small amounts of silicon (0.25%), copper (0.10%), magnesium (2.2-2.8%), zinc (0.10%), manganese (0.10%), chromium (0.15-0.35%), and iron (0.4%). Its tensile strength ranges between 170-305 MPa, while its conditional yield strength is greater than or equal to 65 MPa. The elastic modulus is approximately 69.3-70.7 GPa, and the annealing temperature is around 345°C.
